The Royal Sydney Golf Club is possibly Australia's foremost social and sporting institution. The size of the membership, the location and value of the harbour-side property, the elegance of the clubhouse and its surrounds all contribute to the Club's standing as a prominent organisation. Add to this the quality of the championship golf course, the lawn tennis courts and bowling greens, the number of major tournaments held and the many champions and administrators, have sustained the Club's national and international reputation.

On the 2 August, 1993 The Royal Sydney Golf Club celebrated its one hundredth birthday. The second oldest golf club in New South Wales, it began life at Concord but soon moved to Bondi where Mrs Ebsworth's cottage, located in the inelegantly named Sewer Road, functioned as the first clubhouse. From an original membership of twenty men, membership grew to 500 by 1910 and 2,000 by 1926. Women were admitted as members in 1895. In the centenary year, membership stood at 5,800, making The Royal Sydney Golf Club one of the largest sporting clubs in the western world. The present clubhouse dates from 1922, following the destruction by fire of the previous clubhouse which opened in April 1905. Large and spacious, it is both comfortable and functional, furnished with good taste and adorned by a fine selection of original Australian oil and water colour paintings.

Professional and efficient in every way, the machinery of Royal Sydney achieves a remarkable duality: it sustains both a magnificent tradition of "comfort to the members" in sporting and social services, and it conducts a financially successful business enterprise. There are, on average, three social functions a week such as weddings, engagements and birthday parties. In addition, the Club caters for simultaneous occasions, providing for guests up to 1,000 in total. With a philosophy that places equal emphasis on the sporting facilities and the catering operations, comfort and style are achieved without any loss of warmth and ambience.

Whilst The Royal Sydney Golf Club is a private club, open only to members, guests to this web site are invited to access information about the Club such as the history and facilities pertaining to golf, tennis, bowls, croquet, squash, and the Clubhouse. In addition guests will be able to access a catalogue of products exclusive to Royal Sydney, and if so desire, purchases may be made from the web site. If you wish to contact the Club, please refer to the contacts page of the web site.
