Fitness Centre Update - September 2010
Construction
The project has been subject to extensive delays from wet weather; this has delayed construction. The major concrete pour for the Fitness Centre roof successfully took place mid-August. Following this, any bad weather will now have less of an impact on the timetable.
The S96 application has been approved by Woollahra Council for the construction of the Link Corridor. Construction is likely to begin in late September and will last approximately eight weeks. This work will affect a small section of the Men’s Locker Room (lower level) and those members affected have been informed.
During construction of the Link Corridor, access to the following areas will be closed: the Men’s Locker Room entrance from the Car Park, the internal corridor from the Men’s Locker Room right through to the Ladies’ Locker Room, the Sports Administration and Golf Professionals’ offices and the internal stairs leading from Reception and the Club Bar. The entrance to the Ladies’ Locker Room from the East West corridor stairs will remain open, however access from the corridor leading past the Sport Shop will be unavailable.
With the construction of the new Link Corridor, access to the child minding service will be via this corridor or via Norwich Lane. The planned access from the driveway off Kent Road is not proceeding.
The first tee will be rebuilt in the latter part of the year. It will be larger and slightly higher. There will also be new stairs built up to this tee. During construction, the white tees will be moved forward and thus the first hole will be temporarily shortened.
Timetable
Delays to construction have continued due to rain throughout July and August. Over fifty days have now been lost due to rain and archaeological work. Although construction is still scheduled to be completed before Christmas, to allow for commissioning, the Fitness Centre is likely to open in early 2011.
A Fitness Centre information pack will be sent to all members before the end of the year. This pack will include the Fitness Centre operating guidelines, exercise timetables and Fitness Centre Café, swim school and child minding information.

Proposed Temporary Works
|
The Fitness Centre development reflects the changing lifestyles of the membership. It recognises the requirements of our senior members, for whom fitness and wellbeing is becoming increasingly important. |
|
|
The proposed design includes a 25m outdoor heated pool, an indoor warm water pool, a gymnasium, an exercise studio and a child minding facility, as well as indoor-outdoor cafe-style dining. Personal training, yoga, pilates and fitness classes are expected to be available, as well as swimming classes. |
