2018 Services Sports Day & Dinner
The 2018 Services Sports Day & Military Dining-in Night was held at the Club on Friday 5th October. Despite inclement weather leading up to and on the day of the event over 80 golfers from Royal Sydney, Army, Navy and Air Force still played golf prior to the dinner.
Typical of the attitude of our armed forces all participants braved the very wet and windy conditions in a reduced nine hole competition which included His Excellency General The Honourable David Hurley.
While the conditions were far from great all golfers still enjoyed themselves knowing that they would be treated to a spectacular Military Dining-in Night which commenced following golf.
The Services Cup winner for the second straight year was John Wilson who managed to claim the prestigious cup with a nine hole stableford score of 17 points. The Services Cup is awarded to a Royal Sydney member who is currently serving or has served with one or more of the following criteria:
- Active Service Medal
- The Return from Active Service Badge
- The Australian Service Medal
- A campaign medal for operational service
- The Anniversary of National Service Medal
The John Mant Cup winner is awarded to the runner-up of the Services Cup and this year it was presented to Captain Will Martin who finished two stableford points behind.
The Sir Thomas Daly Memorial Trophy which was named in honour of one of the most renowned soldiers and a well-respected Royal Sydney Member was claimed by Navy. This trophy is contested as a four-way competition between Navy, Army, RAAF and RSGC, with the best 6 scores from each team attributing to the teams average stableford total.
Royal Sydney again relished the opportunity to pay respects to and remember all the sacrifices of our military service men and women.
