Gerard Dahl at the ITF World Coaches Conference
Royal Sydney’s Tennis Professional, Gerard Dahl, recently travelled overseas to attend the ITF World Coaches Conference in Vilnius, Lithuania. The conference brings together coaches and industry professionals from around the world to share current thinking and practical developments in tennis coaching. Gerard has returned with new ideas to incorporate into his work at the Club. His recount is below.
In late October, I attended the ITF World Coaches Conference in Vilnius, Lithuania. The conference is held every two years and featured 90 speakers from around the world, including tour-level coaches, sports psychologists, physical trainers and biomechanists, all working full-time in tennis.
More than 500 coaches from over 100 different nationalities attended. It was a valuable opportunity to hear different approaches to coaching, athlete development and training techniques.
I will be hosting a professional development session with the tennis team to share the key learnings from the conference.
Outside of the conference, I also had the chance to explore Vilnius, which is a very interesting city and worth visiting if you are ever in the Baltics.
