History: This trophy, purchased from Farmers, was presented by H.B. Gritton, a prominent Member of the Club for many years, and an accomplished golfer. H.B Gritton was Deputy Master of the Sydney Mint and acted as Honorary Secretary of the Club from 1900 – 1902. Originally played as a “Two Rounds Bogey Handicap” then a Stroke Handicap event, it was changed in 1982 to a Four Ball Best Ball Par Handicap event. In correspondence relating to the donation, Gritton said ‘I am keen that the presentation of the cup to the winner of the competition should be an occasion when the older and younger members meet together and forget their ages.” In another letter he wrote” My desire is to create an occasion at which older Members might meet the younger Members and get to know them. This would bring about the “clubiness” so desirable and tend to combat the estrangement often engendered in a Club with a large membership like R.S.G.C”
Traditions & Standards: Prize awarded at President & Captain’s Dinner.
