History: The trophy for this important event was presented annually from 1908 to 1929 by Dr. Herbert Marks, a medical specialist widely regarded for his distinguished presence and great personal charm. Well-known members of his family included his cousin Irene, a celebrated beauty of her day, and her brother Theo, who was a prominent member and Chairman of the Sydney Turf Club. Herbert’s brother, Walter, was a noted yachtsman and together they raced the famous yachts ‘Awanui’ and ‘Culwulla’ at Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron. At the end of his professional career Herbert Marks’ principal associate was Dr R.H. Bettington,later Captain of the Club from 1947-51. When Herbert Marks died in 1929, the present trophy, on which the names of the winners are recorded, was given by the Club. The first trophy was won by E.P. Simpson in 1908.

Traditions & Standards: Final is played on Club Championships Finals Day. The trophy is presented after play, and the Prize awarded at the President & Captain’s Dinner. Dress for presentation: Golf attire.
