Summary: Annual Intercub Match Play event held on Sundays in February and March. The team of seven players (plus reserve) plays three home and three away matches in their allocated division vs. three other Clubs. Squad is chosen in September or October each year and practice scheduled established. The winning team from each division advance up a division, the last-placed team is relegated to a lower division.
History: Open to all Sydney Metropolitan Golf Clubs affiliated with Golf NSW, The Metropolitan Major Pennant has been a prestigious interclub event in NSW since 1930. Royal Sydney won the first Major Pennant in 1930 and won again in 1934 and 1938.
By May 1998, Royal Sydney was on the verge of demotion to a lower division, and that demotion was confirmed the following year.
In 2021 Metropolitan Pennants are played across five divisions, with four sections in each division. Royal Sydney, in Division 4, won its section and the divisional semi-final, and went on to win the final in May 2021, its first Pennant in 83 years. It must be noted this achievement does not in any way compare with the wins in the 1930s when there was only one Division
