Association Croquet Hi-Lo Doubles Handicap

Sport: Croquet

Gender: Mixed

Typically Held: April

Summary: A handicapped doubles round robin Association Croquet tournament. One block round robin play. Games are 14 point, handicap, alternate stroke doubles play with time limit of 90 minutes. Open to all players with an Association Croquet handicap.

History: Presented by Major W.R.H. Tingey in 1973. The event is commonly known as the ‘Hi-Lo Doubles.’
The event has been conducted as an Open (i.e. mixed) event since 1976. “Hi-lo games” are teaching games where each side consists a high handicapper and a low – new player and an experienced one – and they select the colour ball at the start of each turn and both play that ball taking alternate turns to strike that ball. A “turn” in Association Croquet can consist a hundred strokes or more if the player does not break down (as for snooker).

Traditions & Standards: Trophy and prize awarded at President & Captain’s Dinner or Women’s Annual Dinner.
