Overview
As one of Australia’s most historic golf, sporting and social clubs, The Royal Sydney Golf Club has amassed an incredibly rich set of traditions throughout its 127-year life. These histories and traditions not only form the story of Royal Sydney’s incredible journey to the present day but, as a collective, should also continue to inform and guide our everyday activities here at the Club.

The history and traditions for our various events have been documented below through extensive research and the collation of publications, documents and archival material. However, it is very important to note that these published records are not considered conclusive. The History & Traditions is a ‘living document’, with potential input from each and every one of our 6,000 members – our very own Wikipedia. Throughout 2021, the records will be released in monthly tranches of events typically held that month.

If you have information that may add to the records, we would love to hear from you. At the bottom of each History & Traditions record will be a form to suggest amendments, add nuances or provide additional details – as well as any documents, correspondence or photos you may have to provide. All such input will be taken to the then next History & Heritage Sub-Committee meeting for potential adoption into the existing record. The documents and photos will inevitably enrich our Archives as well.
