Summary: Friendly match between The Royal Sydney Golf Club and The Australian Golf Club. Four Ball Best Ball Par hosted in alternate years at Royal Sydney and The Australian. Played on a Saturday. Teams of 20 players from each club. One point is awarded for winner of each match. Winner is the club with the highest total points. No tied matches; in the event of a tie winner is determined on countback. In the event of a tie for the event, the winner of the previous year’s event retains the trophy.

History: Royal Sydney vs The Australian was probably first played in 1900. On Saturday, 9 April 1898 Foozler reported in the Sydney Mail : ‘The first inter-club golf match yet held in Sydney will take place between the Royal Sydney and Australian Golf clubs at Bondi today, and I hope it may prove but the forerunner of many pleasant meetings. The object in this instance is not so much competitive as to promote friendly relations between the clubs.’ In a later column, on 5 May 1900 Foozler reports the ‘long deferred’ match between the two clubs. Trophy presented in 1954 by Mr W.A. Anderson.

Traditions & Standards: Composite Course when played at Royal Sydney; top tee used on 1st hole. Drinks and canapes served after play during presentation.
